ICD-10 Physician Coding

Most people do not know or care about the insurance filing a physician practice does for them, unless it is wrong and the insurance does not pay for their services. Effective October 1, 2015; the codes a physician has to use is going from about 17,000 to 154,000+. This is going to have a negative impact on physician practices, and may affect your insurance plan covered services, and possibly payments. Whether physician practices will be ready for this is uncertain. What is certain, is that both the physician and patients are going to have more confusion.

Obamacare; Alive & Well

I am sure by now everyone knows that the Supreme Court, by a vote of 6-3, ruled that everyone gets to keep their Obamacare subsidies; and ask for more. Santa Claus never takes back the gifts once they are delivered. In my opinion, the Supreme Court decided that “Good Intentions” are more important than the Constitution, the law, and the actual meaning of the written word; whether it is actually good for the Country and the Citizens or not. I agree that there are those who need help with health care expenses; I just think there are better ways to do it. Remember, the Supreme court also ruled that Obamacare is a new “Tax” and “Tax Credit”; not a subsidy, insurance benefit, or something else. This means that the National Debt will increase by another $1.7 Trillion dollars; and that the burdensome costs of Obamacare/IRS compliance remains in place for you and your employer. Happy 4th of July.

The ABC’s Of Obamacare

We are past January 1, 2015. Obamacare 2015 reports will be due just like 2015 W-2’s will be due in January 2016. Do you know your A-B-C’s of Sections 6055 & 6056 with Forms 1094 & 1095 reporting? You need to learn! It is 2015 monthly data for each employee that large employers and self-insured employers have to report in 2016; including many 50-99 size employers who thought they were exempt. All size employers have to provide notices. Individuals also have to report on their 2015 personal returns and reconcile their subsidies like they did in 2014; some owed money back to the government for 2014. The full impact of the Obamacare compliance and reporting began in earnest January 1, 2015. The penalties are significant and non-deductible.

Future Healthcare Access

Just because you have health insurance does not mean you have access to healthcare. There is, and will continue to be a doctor shortage. There will also be more “Restricted Networks” with the new “Exchange” insurance products. Getting access to a doctor in a timely manner will become more difficult. You will need to take charge of your healthcare to get the right care; at the right time; at the right price. Having an “Advocate” and access to “Telemedicine” will become vital tools for you. Look at the iPersonal Health Centers information on the BizAdvantix website as well as the Health Advocate and Teladoc videos on the site. Contact me if you have questions.

ACA (Obamacare) Compliance

Many small businesses do not think Obamacare applies to them because they have less than 50 employees. Parts of Obamacare apply to all businesses regardless of size. If you offer “Health Insurance” to employees, regardless of the number of employees you have, Obamacare compliance is extensive and potential penalties high. Most small businesses do not have the internal resources to manage this and need to seek outside quality advisors and support. Many large businesses also need to seek outside quality advisors and support.

Can Employers Survive Healthcare Change?

The Employer is facing one of the greatest business challenges in recent history. The passage and implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) has changed health insurance rules for Employers and Employees. It may destroy the best healthcare system in the world. It is definitely going to change how healthcare is accessed and delivered. No one knows what the rules are now; or will be in the future except;

  • The Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) gets to change all the rules
  • The Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) decides who gets paid
  • The Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) decides who gets care
  • Both State and Federal “Marketplace Exchanges” are selling insurance plans
  • There will also be “Private Insurance Exchanges” selling insurance plans
  • Obamacare (ACA) has different rules for everyone; all are not treated equally
  • Insurance Companies will still decide what insurance costs; it will be higher
  • Regulations will be dictated and enforced by Bureaucrats, IRS, HHS & DOL

How will the Employer make critical decisions in order to survive and prosper?
